Eagle Scout Creates Courtyard
Oasis at Rancho Springs

Justin Harvey
Justin Harvey recently helped beautify Rancho Springs Medical Center for his Eagle Scout project.
Rancho Springs Medical Center now has a beautiful Wellness Garden for relaxation and reflection, thanks to 14-year-old Justin Harvey and his Boy Scout troop. Justin, son of Chief Nursing Officer Patricia Harvey, transformed RSMC's courtyard as his Eagle Scout project.

Justin oversaw all aspects of the project. He worked with the SWHCS Auxiliary and local businesses to raise funds, developed a landscape design and marshaled the muscle of nearly 60 people to create the garden.

The courtyard now features an inviting paved seating area under a graceful white pergola, as well as new hedges, trees, flowers, benches and statuary. Vine-covered trellises in front of the windows facing the courtyard allow patients to look out while offering privacy.

The hospital formally thanked Justin for his hard work at a ribbon-cutting ceremony in June. He got an extra burst of satisfaction when he visited in July and noticed people relaxing in the space. "I realized that it had turned out even nicer than I thought," he says. "And it was really great to see people enjoying it."
