New Physician Cares for Patients of All Ages

Photo of Steve Sparkman
We're pleased to welcome family physician Luther Mangoba, M.D., to the Southwest Healthcare System medical community. Dr. Mangoba is well-versed in new technologies and in step with the health concerns of a wide range of patients, from infants to seniors.

Family Medicine Specialist
"I had planned to become an adult internal medicine physician, but while in training, I realized that I loved working with kids, too," Dr. Mangoba says. "I decided to specialize in family medicine so I could treat patients of all ages and focus on helping them stay healthy. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is seeing patients take control of their own health, whether that means starting an exercise program or reducing their dependence on daily medications."

Long-Term Relationships
A typical day for Dr. Mangoba includes performing checkups for children and adults, treating colds and minor injuries and helping patients manage diabetes, heart disease or other chronic conditions. He also refers patients to specialists and connects them with social and community services, like home health nursing. He aims to develop long-term relationships with patients and their families, and says he's proud to be the trusted professional his patients turn to first with their medical concerns.

Dr. Mangoba received his medical degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency at Riverside County Regional Medical Center.

Losing Weight for Better Health
For many patients, getting healthy involves losing weight. Luther Mangoba, M.D., offers structured weight-loss programs that help patients learn how much they should weigh and provides individualized diet and exercise plans.

"Some people have an idea of what they need to do to lose weight, but they need specific advice and someone to hold them accountable," Dr. Mangoba says. "We put patients on a three-month plan that gives them structure and the tools for safe, healthy weight loss. We've had patients who have lost up to 60 pounds and kept them off."
